SLT vs. SolidCore

unnamedAny fitness class junkie knows the workout is only one component of the class. The vibe, instructor, and flow of the class make a huge impact on our mental and physical outcomes. So, SLT and SolidCore, while similar in difficulty are vastly different in aesthetics. It is not that one is better than the other, it is simply a matter of preference.

SLT’s tries to uphold an upscale, classy aesthetic. In the barre world, SLT is to exhale as is SolidCore to Physique 57. SLT tends to be an open floor plan. The studios are bright, decorated in white and blue. The space projects a relaxing vibe incorporating bright, white lighting.  SLT plays the music softly, as the instructor’s voice leads the class serving as the primary noise. While the instructor speaks the majority of the class, he/she also lets the moves speak for themselves, and will only cue the class towards the end of each movement.

On the other hand, solidcore tries to be edgy and youthful. The studio is dark with black lights, similar to Barry’s Bootcamp or Soulcycle. The reformer itself is different than SLT’s- it is easier to use. As expected given the studio’s lighting, the music plays louder during a SolidCore class than a SLT class. Typically, the instructor talks you through the ENTIRE class. They do this to make the class move faster, cuing you throughout every second of the class. Because of this, SolidCore’s class ends up being a lot easier to follow.

In the end, if I had to choose between the two, it would be entirely based on my mood. If I felt like I needed to be pumped up, I would end up at SolidCore, but if I needed to relax SLT would be the move. Like I said earlier, both are great choices for a reformer pilates workout; it is simply a matter of preferred aesthetics. What do you prefer?
